Comprehensive Eye Examination

Here at Swan Street Optometrist our experienced optometrist will take the time to understand your individual visual needs. He will then patiently and accurately determine your optical prescription and assess your vision including colour vision and binocular vision. If you have any special visual requirements in your daily activities we would also recommend specific eyewear for that purpose.

Our standard eye examination also includes assessment of your eye health using state of the art equipment. As part of glaucoma screening we use computerised equipment to check your intraocular pressure and corneal thickness which may affect the intraocular pressure reading.

Slit lamp digital imaging is used to assess the front of your eye for detection of eye disease such as cataract and conjunctivitis. Sophisticated retinal imaging is used to assess the back of your eye ( retina and optic nerve) for the early detection of age related macular degeneration (ARMD), glaucoma and retinal diseases related to systemic conditions such as hypertension and diabetes. If required, additional testing using computerised automated perimeter can be used to assess visual fields (peripheral vision) to detect and monitor glaucoma and neurological conditions such as mid brain tumor that can affect the visual field.

Digital assessment of the cornea using corneal topographer for early detection of keratoconus. It may also be used for an initial analysis of the tear film in order to identify patients most at risk of ocular surface and/or dry eye disease before symptoms develop.

Wide field 200 degree view of the retina can be used to assess the peripheral retina without dilating eye drops.

We also co-manage with medical specialists such as rheumatologists and dermatologists to monitor the ocular side effects of systematic medication such as plaquenil.

In 2005, Swan Street Optometrists joined an elite handful of practices in Australia that offer Corneal Refractive Therapy (CRT), more commonly known as Orthokeratology.

Myopea Control

Another remarkable aspect of orthokeratology is the evidence emerging that it slows and possibly even halts completely the progression of short-sightedness in young eyes. Orthokeratology has been shown to be a viable option for correcting vision as well as slowing the development of myopia in the future. This claim has been reinforced by results in many clinical studies, follow-up studies and retrospective reviews of cases."
